A couple cool music things going on that I wanted to let you guys in on:
1) Great Discussion on saxophonist Mantana Roberts’ blog. She was part of a university panel discussion about jazz and it’s future. It’s a great post that has gotten the whole blogosphere talking to itself pretty heavily. It deals with Radiohead and the notion of “new standards” in jazz. Interesting read. Mantana is a great player and writer (both in music and in prose).
2) Matt White (our friend and fearless leader of Fight the Big Bull) wrote a great piece on RVANews about last week’s stellar Steve Reich world premiere at University of Richmond. His piece Double Sextet was performed by those crazy modern classical classically moderne eighth blackbird dudes. Matt does an admirable job of breaking down minimalism (as long as Tony Conrad doesn’t read it).
That’s all I got, but that’s plenty of readin’.
